Equal gender distribution in the Nordic cultural sector
One of the goals of the Nordic collaboration on equality is to ensure that “women and men in the Nordic region have the same opportunities to participate in the labour market and have financial independence”. An effort is consequently underway to end gender segregation in the labour market. Our study shows that, in contrast to Nordic labour markets in general, state-funded cultural institutions are characterised by an equal gender distribution in all the Nordic countries. No country has a staff composition within its cultural sector in which the underrepresented gender comprises less than 40 per cent of the employees.
